Fiorentina in need of a response

Fiorentina are hoping to go one better after losing the last two Conference League finals but they have a deficit to recover in the second leg of their last 16 tie with Panathinaikos.

The Greek side won the first leg 3-2 but with home advantage La Viola can fight back in the second meeting. The clash in Athens was incredibly close and Fiorentina were unlucky to come away from that fixture a goal behind, but they may be a little more dominant on Italian soil.

Panathinaikos have been poor on their travels recently with four defeats and no wins in their last seven trips across all competitions. The Shamrock have only won one of their last five away European games, at Welsh side TNS, and have lost in Iceland and in Sweden during that run.

Fiorentina have five defeats in their last six games but they have faced Inter and Napoli during that run, and most of their struggles have come away from home. The Tuscan outfit have three wins in their last four at home and the best bet could be a home win to nil.

Fiorentina have managed clean sheets in two of their last three home wins and the visitors have failed to score in two of their last five trips, so a repeat of last week’s five-goal thriller is perhaps unlikely.

A 2-0 home win is the correct score pick in what could be a nervy game. If La Viola are able to go two-up, which would see them win the tie without the need of extra time, they will probably adopt a more defensive approach to see out the game and may settle for a job done win here as they look to secure a quarter-final place.
