SC Freiburg vs Union Berlin Predictions

Onwards and upwards for Schuster’s side

Freiburg’s pursuit of a Champions League berth in this season’s Bundesliga has been hindered by a string of draws but they can return to winning ways at home to Union Berlin.

The Black Forest club are unbeaten in seven Bundesliga fixtures but they have drawn their last three games against Augsburg, Leipzig and Mainz.

That has stalled their progress but it is nonetheless shaping up to be a terrific first full season under the stewardship of Julian Schuster.

Freiburg have been particularly reliable in defence, having gone six league games without conceding before their 2-2 draw with Mainz before the international hiatus.

And they should be able to limit the damage against an Union Berlin side languishing in the bottom half of the Bundesliga.

Blunt Union attack unlikely to fluster Freiburg

Union have an adequate buffer between them and the relegation positions and they should preserve their top-flight status this season.

But they continue to disappoint in the final third, scoring only 23 times in 26 league games and firing blanks against Heidenheim, Augsburg, St Pauli, Leipzig, Borussia Dortmund and Holstein Kiel this year.

A bet on Freiburg to win and under 3.5 goals looks like the best way to play it and 2-0 appeals in the correct score market given Union’s struggles in attack.
