Both Teams To Score

Reason for tip

Both teams have scored in six of Italy’s last seven matches, while they’ve kept one clean sheet in 11. The visitors need to push forward to get back in this tie but they host a Germany side who have scored in 13 consecutive matches.

Draw 1-1

Reason for tip

Italy lost one of their six Nations League group games, so it’s hard to see them losing home and away in this tie. Germany narrowly edged Thursday’s encounter in terms of expected goals, while the hosts know a draw takes them through to the next round.

Davide Frattesi To Score Anytime

Reason for tip

Frattesi scored in two of Italy’s three away trips in the last round and the midfielder will be aiming to push forward in this trip. He leads the team in terms of shots on target in the Nations League and he’ll likely be their go-to man as they push to get back in the tie.

Germany vs Italy Predictions

  • Both teams have scored in six of Italy’s last seven
  • The visitors need to push forward to get back in the tie, but they’ve kept one clean sheet in 11
  • Germany have scored in their previous 13 internationals

Italy’s need should lead to goals

A 2-1 win for Germany in Milan on Thursday has Julian Nagelsmann’s side in the driving seat of this Nations League quarter-final. The winner will not only progress to the last four, but they’ll also host June’s Nations League finals.

While the hosts have the lead, Italy can’t be ruled out just yet. The Azzurri won all three of their away trips in the group stage, picking up victories at France, Israel and Belgium.

The away side pack a scoring punch and they will be looking to push forward where possible here. Luciano Spalletti encourages his central midfielders to get up in support of their front two, given Italy’s lack of a proven finisher – despite boasting Serie A top scorer Mateo Retegui.

Both teams have scored in six of Italy’s seven Nations League games so far, while they’ve kept one clean sheet across their last 11 competitive games. Hosts Germany have scored in 13 consecutive internationals, but they conceded 13 shots – including six on target – in the first leg.

Italy will hope their midfield can come good again here, with Davide Frattesi scoring in two of their three away wins in the last round. The Inter Milan midfielder leads the team in shots on target in this competition and he can find the net once again.
