Girona vs Tottenham Hotspur Predictions
Girona continue their preparation for another season in Spain’s top flight with what is undoubtedly their toughest pre-season game on Saturday. Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham Hotspur provide the opposition in Spain this weekend, for what will be their final friendly before the start of the new Premier League season.
Girona shocked all by finishing tenth in their debut season in La Liga, finishing ahead of established teams such as Athletic Bilbao, Celta Vigo, and Espanyol. The small Catalonian club ended the campaign just seven points behind Europa League qualifiers Sevilla, but avoiding second season syndrome will be the biggest test of Girona’s resolve this time around.
Eloi Amagat has now left the club and joined New York City in the MLS, while Farid Boulaya has joined Ligue 2 Metz for £720k. Two players who had successful loan spells with Girona last season have been signed on a permanent basis, with a total of £9m being spent on defenders Mojia from Rayo Vallecano and Stokes Muniesa.
Pre-season has seen Girona keep clean sheets in each of their five games so far, but Bolton, Oldham, Melbourne City, Kerala Blasters, and Sabadell are hardly what you would call top class opposition. Still, Girona have shown an eye for goal as well as the ability to defend, netting six against Melbourne City and five against Kerala Blasters.
Tottenham Hotspur have played just three games in pre-season, but each has been against European heavyweights. As part of a friendly cup that took place across America, Spurs played Serie A sides Roma and AS Milan, and beat them both, but La Liga champions Barcelona got the better of the English side in a penalty shoot-out.
Its been unusually quiet on the transfer scene for Tottenham Hotspur, something that has disappointed Pochettino, with tensions riding high between the manager and the board. Vincent Janssen has returned to the club following a disappointing loan spell with Fenerbahce which saw the Dutch striker score four goals in fifteen appearances in the Turkish Super Lig.
The only spin you can put on Totteham’s lack of action in the transfer market is that at least the likes of Kane, Alli, Alderweireld, and Eriksen remain at the club, though there is a little under a week left before the transfer window closes.
We’re confident that Tottenham will win this game and have backed under 2.5 goals to be scored. Girona are yet to concede in pre-season and Tottenham wont push too hard with the Premier League starting next weekend. Girona have the home advantage and have proved themselves to be a decent side, so while we’re backing the visitors to win its going to be a close game. As for a final score, we’re backing a narrow 1-0 win for the Premier League side.
