Instant return looking unlikely for Granada

A poor run of one win in six league matches means Granada’s hopes of landing a playoff spot and a shot at an instant return to the Spanish top flight are in danger of fading away completely. 

They are sitting five points off the top six heading into the weekend, but have a great opportunity to close the gap to two when they welcome sixth-placed Real Oviedo to Andalusia on Saturday.

The visitors have promotion aspirations of their own, though, and they will be eager to maintain their top-six spot this weekend.

Form suggests they will, too, with Oviedo’s run of only two losses in ten matches suggesting they can hold their own at Granada. 

Real have impressed on their travels particularly, winning four of their last six away matches, although a victory may evade them this time. 

For all of their troubles, Granada have remained solid at home in the Segunda Division, putting together a nine-game unbeaten run on their own patch. 

With that in mind, a fourth stalemate in six home matches looks to be on the cards for Granada, with Oviedo likely to frustrate their hosts.
