      Gremio vs Sao Paulo Predictions

Thursday’s Brazilian Serie A action features an interesting clash between Gremio and Sao Paulo. The visitors will be looking to keep up their fantastic form in order to take home a positive result.

That’s something Gremio will be looking to prevent from happening but with inconsistency rife in their performances, it remains to be seen whether they’ll be able to. Tricolor came into the campaign with hopes of challenging for the title but already 7 points off the pace of leaders Flamengo in 7th, significant improvement is going to have to be found if the side are to be there or thereabouts come the end of the year.

A 1-0 defeat to a no more than average Vasco team last weekend has confidence low in Gremio ranks coming into this clash and fans are starting to become impatient with the team. Renato Gaucho’s troops have now won just 2 of their last 5 Serie A outings, losing the same amount in the process and a less than inspiring home record that reads 3 wins from 7 league matches so far this campaign is hardly a reason for encouragement ahead of Thursday’s game.

Meanwhile, Sao Paulo are the division’s form team and look like being a surprise candidate for the title after several uninspiring campaigns. Boss Diego Aguirre has done a simply fantastic job since taking control and with his troops in 2nd place, just one point shy of Flamengo, there’s a real sense of excitement building around the club.

The visitors have come flying out of the traps since the league resumed after the World Cup break, picking up an impressive 1-0 win at Flamengo prior to blowing away arch rivals Corinthians by a 3-1 margin over the weekend with a tremendous performance. Taking to the pitch off the back of four consecutive wins overall now, as well has having lost just once all season, it’s clear to see this Sao Paulo side won’t be fazed by what is undoubtedly still a tricky trip.

Ultimately, with Sao Paulo in such strong shape, it’s hard to envisage them falling to defeat here and as such, we’re more than happy to back them on the double chance line.

The fact they’ve faced most of the division’s stronger teams and lost just 1 of 14 matches speaks volumes of the campaign they’re having, up against a Gremio side that is packed with quality but lacking consistency, we believe they’ll be able to take something.

2 of the last 3 meetings between the two have ended 1-1 and that looks the most likely scoreline all things considered. Sao Paulo have avoided defeat in 6 of their last 8 matches with Gremio and there’s no reason to believe they cannot do so again.
