Haiti vs Peru Predictions

Haiti surprisingly made it to the Copa America finals courtesy of a playoff victory over Trinidad & Tobago, but they couldn’t have been handed a much tougher group. Brazil are the hot favourites to top the group and both Ecuador and Peru will be more than capable opposition. There’s not much chance of them making it to the knockouts, but a single positive result would be enough for them to class it as a success.

Things aren’t going well for them in the World Cup qualifying arena though. They have picked up just one point from their first four games and sit bottom of their group, nine points off leaders Costa Rica and six adrift of the qualifying position that Panama possess at the moment.

Haiti have lost four of their last six games, with their only win being the Copa America Qualifier against Trinidad & Tobago. The likes of Costa Rica, Jamaica, Panama, and Colombia have all beaten them during this period, and the 3-1 loss to Colombia in the warm up game for the Copa America won’t have given them much hope.

Peru won their own warm up friendly 3-1 against El Salvador after beating Trinidad & Tobago 4-0 in a friendly the week before. Their squad for this competition is largely experimental after they axed a lot of experienced players due to their attitude, but if they can get a win against Haiti they put themselves in a good position to maybe nick 2nd in the group.

The World Cup qualifying campaign isn’t going so well with this newly formed squad though. They sit down in 8th position with just four points from their opening six games. They have lost to Colombia, Chile, Brazil, and Uruguay during this campaign, with only a win against Paraguay, a draw against Venezuela, and their two friendly victories boosting their confidence.

Peru really should be winning this match, and after a successful couple of friendlies I fully expect them to take all three points in their opener. They managed seven goals in their opening two matches and the likes of Paolo Guerrero and Christian Cueva should be able to trouble the Haiti defence significantly. Haiti conceded three against Colombia in their warm up match, so a couple of goals from Peru seems likely to me. This makes odds of 19/20 for a Peru Win and Over 1.5 Goals look good value to me, and I’m going for a 3-0 correct score prediction at 10/1 as well.
