Hibernian vs Clyde Predictions
- Hibs have not lost to Clyde for over 50 years
- Clyde have registered just two wins in their last 13 League Cup ties
- Hibs last lost a League Cup game against a side outside of the SPL in 2016
Hibs to avoid an upset?
It might be their first competitive game of the season, but Hibernian should be able to overcome any ring-rust against a side ranked two divisions below them in the Scottish pyramid.
This match is Lee Johnson’s debut as Hibs manager, with their pre-season so far consisting of a 2-0 victory over Hartlepool and 4-2 defeat of Burton Albion.
They reached the final of this trophy last year, losing to Celtic, and will be desperate for another similar run, with new signings Aiden McGeady, David Marshall and Lewis Miller hoping to make their debuts.
Clyde unlikely to perform a giant-killing
The last time Clyde faced Hibs 20 years ago they suffered a 6-1 hammering, and a similar fate could well await the League One side in this cup clash.
Danny Lennon’s side have not had the best of preparations for this game following the postponement of a planned friendly against Fauldhouse United.
Their form in the League Cup is poor, losing nine of their last 13 matches and winning just two, while they finished last season with a run of five defeats in six.
Hibs are the much higher ranked team and should win this comfortably, so I predict they will do so with a -2 handicap, with 3-0 to the hosts my correct score prediction.
