Stoke City and Both Teams To Score

Reason for tip

Huddersfield have lost all three games so far this season while Stoke City have won two of their last four away league games. The Terriers missed a chance to create some much-needed momentum when they were beaten 4-1 in the Carabao Cup by Preston.

Stoke City 2-1

Reason for tip

Stoke have failed to score in only two of their last 13 away Championship matches, hitting multiple goals on five occasions. Meanwhile, hosts Huddersfield shipped two at Birmingham and should have conceded at least three at home to Burnley the week before. However, they failed to score in only four of their 23 home league games last term.

Terrible Terriers still in a downward trend

Dark clouds have gathered over John Smith’s Stadium and time may already be running out for new Huddersfield Town boss Danny Schofield ahead of the Terriers’ clash with Stoke City this weekend. A chance to create some much-needed momentum was spurned in midweek when his team were beaten 4-1 in the Carabao Cup by Preston.

Schofield played only three of his starting line-up from the previous weekend whereas Preston boss Ryan Lowe named five of his regulars in the North End team. Even so, getting gubbed on your own ground is not going to be great for confidence and the Terriers’ morale was already melting away.

The former assistant to Carlos Corberan sent out his team in an unfamiliar 4-4-2 shape on Tuesday, but abandoned that within half an hour after they went 3-0 down. Understandably, his thinking must be all over the place right now and sadly he seems to lack the experience to find any solution.

Stoke can score a couple in rare away win

Stoke were knocked out of the cup on penalties by League Two Morecambe, but there was nothing wrong with the performance and Michael O’Neill would probably welcome the exit to take pressure off a squad that will be severely tested in a stamina-sapping campaign.

The Potters were not brilliant away from home last season, winning only two of their last 11 road trips, but they may not need to be brilliant to earn three points on Saturday. Last season’s Huddersfield form into account seems irrelevant now, but they have rarely failed to score at home in the last 12 months and could ensure both teams register here – like they have done in the last five head-to-heads.

However, Stoke appear capable of grabbing a couple against a weak Terriers rearguard that shipped two at Birmingham and should have conceded at least three at home to Burnley the week before. Take Stoke to win with BTTS at a large price and a 2-1 Potters win in correct score betting.
