Ipswich vs AFC Bournemouth Predictions
- Both teams have scored in four of Ipswich’s last six home league games
- Both teams have scored in five of Bournemouth’s last seven Premier League away dates
- Liam Delap is still receiving good service, despite his three-game goal drought for Ipswich
Ipswich still seeking first home win
Still looking for their first home league win of the season, Ipswich entertain in-form Bournemouth at Portman Road on Sunday afternoon. The Tractor Boys have drawn four and lost three of their first seven home appearances since returning to the top-flight, coming closest to claiming a win against Leicester before Jordan Ayew’s stoppage-time leveller.
Kieran McKenna’s side did win at Tottenham last month to briefly lift themselves out of the relegation zone, but a subsequent home draw with Manchester United followed by back-to-back losses have seen them slip into the bottom three again.
This will have been a match Town would have been targeting for three points since the fixtures were released. The Cherries lost more than half of their away league games last season and this term is shaping up to follow the same pattern.
Cherries on a charge
Andoni Iraola’s side have won two, drawn two and lost three games on the road with those two victories coming against clubs – like Ipswich – involved in the relegation scrap. Many will be looking for them to take three points here too because they arrive on the back of successive wins over Wolves and Tottenham.
Ipswich also beat Spurs recently, however, and have enough power and athleticism in their side to make life very tough for the Cherries. Town are quite a tall team and not shy in using their physical prowess to bully teams.
This could be a problem for a Bournemouth side that have won the fewest aerial duels of any Premier League team this season.
Aerial weakness could be exploited
Iraola’s man have conceded goals to headers in each of their last two away games with the one scored by Brentford’s Yoane Wissa highlighting their issue as they lost three aerial challenges in their own box.
Liam Delap, who has scored five goals in his last nine Premier League appearances, could take advantage and the England Under-21 striker still receiving good service, despite his three-game goal drought for Ipswich.
Backing both teams to score seems the safest play in the book here because Ipswich are far from fully secure at the back either. Both teams have scored in four of their last six home games and also in five of Bournemouth’s last seven Premier League road trips.
