Ipswich vs Arsenal Predictions
- Both teams have scored in each of Ipswich’s last four games.
- Both teams have scored in four of Arsenal’s last five.
- The Gunners have conceded in four successive away games.
Both teams can strike at Portman Road
Arsenal secured their place in the Champions League semi-finals this week with a 5-1 aggregate win over Real Madrid and they return to action in more modest surroundings on Sunday as they face Ipswich at Portman Road.
Premier League glory is only mathematically within reach for the Gunners and dropping out of the top five is equally unlikely.
Ipswich’s survival hopes also appear purely theoretical now as they are 14 points adrift of safety with just 18 available, meaning this game is close to being a dead-rubber.
Arsenal’s priority now is clearly Europe and I expect boss Mikel Arteta to rotate for Sunday’s game.
An away win is still the more likely result, but the best betting angle looks to be backing both teams to score.
Ipswich still showing some spirit
Survival was always a massive ask for Ipswich this season after back-to-back promotions and when the dust has settled there will be positives the club can take from this season.
The Tractor Boys are still showing some fight and they held Chelsea to a 2-2 draw last time out. Both teams have scored in Ipswich’s last four games overall and in each of their last four at home.
Clean sheets have been a bit of an issue for Arsenal on their travels of late and they’ve conceded in each of their last four away games and in 15 of their last 18 trips going back further, so both teams to score looks good value.
Even a heavily rotated Arsenal side should be strong enough to win at Portman Road and a 2-1 win for the visitors has a chance, as the North London club have only scored more than twice in one of their last eight games.
One Ipswich player who could be back in the top tier next season is Liam Delap, who has a £30million release clause in his contract in the event the club are relegated. Arsenal are among his reported suitors and if he returns to the starting XI on Sunday he is a value option for an anytime goal. Delap has 12 league goals for the season and has scored in each of his last two starts.
