Ipswich vs Leicester City Predictions
- Ipswich are yet to win in any competition this season
- Leicester have won just two of their last 12 games away from home across league and cup fixtures
- The two sides played out a 1-1 draw in this Championship fixture last season
Tractor Boys can make history with victory over flat Foxes
Ipswich’s return to the Premier League has not been as happy as many fans would have hoped but the Tractor Boys could finally claim their first top flight victory since April 2002 when they host fellow promoted side Leicester City at Portman Road.
The Tractor Boys have lost five and won zero of their nine opening Premier League matches but there were plenty of positives to take for manager Kieran McKenna in their 4-3 loss at Brentford last time out – a match that the visitors scored once and hit the post in after going down to 10 men after Harry Clarke’s dismissal.
Leicester on the other hand have two league victories to their name following back-to-back victories over Bournemouth and Southampton in October, however defeats to rivals Nottingham Forest (3-1) in the Premier League and Manchester United (5-2) in the Carabao Cup will have brought Steve Cooper’s men crashing back down to Earth.
The two meetings last season in the Championship both ended in score draws and the defensive frailties of both sides should see goals at both ends once again in this contest. However, home advantage could be key for Ipswich and they could get the better of a Leicester side with one away win all season. Our prediction is a 2-1 win for the hosts.
Delap can delight the home fans once again
While they may have struggled for points this season, Ipswich will be buoyed by the fact that striker Liam Delap has shone for the Tractor Boys in front of goal this season.
The former Manchester City striker has five goals already this season, netting over half of Ipswich’s total tally of nine, and he came off the bench to score their third in the defeat to Brentford – before almost netting a stunning equaliser in the dying embers.
No man taken more shots (16) or registered more efforts on target (eight) than the 21-year-old for Ipswich this season and the confident striker will back himself to find the net on Saturday.
