Under 2.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

Although a big win would see Israel move into the Nations League playoff picture, there is a distinct end-of-term feeling about this clash so don’t expect many goals in Budapest

Belgium 2-0

Reason for tip

Belgium have not convinced at all over the last year and while they can gain a victory in this one it seems unlikely they will go goal-crazy, so go for a 2-0 win over Israel

Israel vs Belgium Predictions

  • Israel have not scored more than once in 14 outings
  • Six of Belgium’s last nine games have featured fewer than three goals
  • Domenico Tedesco’s side have won just one of their last seven matches

Belgians will be glad it’s nearly over

Thursday’s 1-0 home defeat to Italy means Belgium will not progress in this year’s Nations League and are set for at least a relegation playoff, capping what has been a pretty miserable six months for Domenico Tedesco’s side.

Having underwhelmed at the Euros in the summer when they lost in the last-16 to France, talk of the golden generation is almost over and they are likely to be looking for a different manager in the new year.

Tedesco could not get forwards Romelu Lukaku and Lois Openda to gel as they fell to Sandro Tonali’s goal against Italy and a lacklustre effort would not be a surprise when they complete their programme against Israel in Budapest.

Desired Israel win looks unlikely

Their opponents battened down the hatches in Paris to earn an unlikely goalless draw against France in midweek, and that is the first point Israel have earned in this season’s group stage.

An immediate return to Group B beckons unless they can post a three-goal win but that looks unlikely for a team who have little going on up front.

They could produce another damage-limitation performance, but this looks likely to be a game that produces few goals and a 2-0 win for the Belgians could interest those looking for a correct-score interest.
