Atalanta can claim key victory

Juventus host Atalanta in Serie A on Sunday and there may not be many goals in this one. Atalanta have been solid at the back this season and under 2.5 goals looks the best bet.

Atalanta are third in the table, one place above Juventus, with the two sides separated by three points so this is a crucial clash in Serie A. Atalanta have won 16, drawn seven and lost four of their 27 games this season, while Juventus record is 13 wins, 13 draws and one defeat.

Juventus have had six victories in their last seven Serie A games and are unbeaten at home in the league for 21 matches. Atalanta are also in good form, having gone six games without defeat, and they are on a run of three straight away wins.

Juventus’ 2-0 victory over Verona on Monday was their third consecutive Serie A game with under 2.5 goals, but they dominated the match with 76.1% possession – more than in any game this season. They have also won 12 of the 19 games in which they’ve scored first this season (63%).

Both teams have been solid defensively of late. Juventus have kept out their opponents in each of their last three Serie A games and no team has shipped fewer goals this season than their 21 in 27 games. Atalanta are also strong at the back, conceding 10 goals in 14 away games – an average of 0.71 goals per game – and are on a run of four successive clean sheets.

Atalanta can edge this, with a 1-0 correct score in their favour looking like a decent bet. They are on a run of three straight away wins and seven of the last nine meetings between these two sides have produced under 2.5 goals.
