      North Macedonia to Win

      Reason for tip

Latvia were thrashed 4-1 by Armenia in their Nations League opener, meaning they have now lost 11 of their last 16 matches. Given North Macedonia beat those same opponents 2-0 in their last game, they look like worthy favourites to make it four wins from four meetings with Latvia on Thursday.

      North Macedonia 2-0

      Reason for tip

While Latvia have struggled for positive results recently, they have at least kept things respectable. Seven of the 11 Wolves’ last eight matches have produced under 2.5 goals and that trend should continue in a defeat to North Macedonia, who have failed to net more than twice in any of their last eight games.

      Latvia vs North Macedonia Predictions

      • Latvia have lost 11 of their last 16 matches
      • Macedonia have won all three of their previous meetings with these opponents
      • Seven of Latvia’s last eight games have stayed under 2.5 goals

Luckless Latvia likely to lose again

Little was expected of Latvia ahead of this Nations League campaign given they were the lowest-ranked side in League C when the draw was made but one win from two matches is a decent return for the minnows thus far.

However, any momentum built from that 1-0 success over Faroe Islands could be short-lived as a visit from North Macedonia – the strongest side in Group 4 on paper – could see their form revert to the norm.

Latvia have lost 11 of their last 16 games in a run which includes just three wins as well as two poor draws with Cyprus and Liechtenstein – the latter were beaten by San Marino last month – suggesting any positive result seems unlikely on Thursday.

Hosts’ hopes of taming Lions look slim

North Macedonia, in contrast, have secured some impressive results over the past couple of years.

Draws with Italy and England in 2023 are much better results than anything Latvia have achieved for a very long time and a 2-0 win over Armenia – who beat Thursday’s hosts 4-1 in their opener – shows their quality.

The majority of the hosts’ squad still play in Latvia and their players are nowhere near the quality of the Lions’ Champions League-level stars Elif Elmas and Bojan Miovski.

Back North Macedonia to land a fourth consecutive win against the 11 Wolves in Riga.
