Lazio can bounce back from Supercoppa slip-up

Lazio slipped to a 3-0 defeat against Inter in the Supercoppa Italiana semi-finals on Friday but that was a blip in what has otherwise been an impressive run and they can see off Napoli on Sunday.

Before their humbling in the cup competition last Friday, Lazio had won five matches in a row in all competitions against Empoli, Frosinone, Udinese, Roma and Lecce.

With four of those victories coming in Serie A, they managed to propel themselves into the top six in the league and they have emerged as contenders for a top-four spot and Champions League qualification.

As for their opponents Napoli, they were finalists against Inter in the Supercoppa Italia on Monday but in the league they have been some way off the pace.

Having won the title by 16 points last term, Napoli are lingering in the mid-table positions this time around and have posted just two wins in their last seven games.

Osimhen absence not helping cause of deflated Napoli

They are not helped by the absence of Victor Osimhen, who is at the Africa Cup of Nations with Nigeria, and they should be opposed at the Stadio Olimpico.

Lazio have been pretty reliable at the back this season, conceding only 20 goals in their 20 league fixtures and since the start of December, they have kept clean sheets against Cagliari, Genoa, Empoli, Roma and Lecce.

Given Napoli’s issues going forwards recently, Lazio could shut out their opponents again and a 2-0 win for the hosts could be the way to go.
