Brescia hope to delay their fate

Two of the bottom three meet on Wednesday night, with these two the only sides in the relegation one who can hope to survive, thanks to Brescia. The visitors won 2-1 at home to SPAL at the weekend which has sent the bottom side down to Serie B. Now they’re aiming to avoid the same fate here.

Brescia are just a defeat away from having their relegation confirmed, as a loss would leave them nine points shy of Genoa with only three games left to play. While their relegation already looks inevitable, a positive result here will keep them fighting a little longer. That’s got to be a concern for the hosts, who badly need the points themselves.

Hammer blow to Lecce

Lecce have got to start putting the pieces back together after a tough result at the weekend. The hosts went down 2-1 at Genoa, the side who are 17th. That make or break relegation clash went to the Grifone, which means that Lecce need some big favours as they look to overhaul a four-point gap to Genoa, is is effectively now five points given their negative head to head record.

It wasn’t a surprise given the poor form that Lecce were in going into the game. They’ve now lost eight of their last 10 games, putting them in line for a quick return to Serie B. They’ve conceded 31 goals across those 10 matches, so it’s not hard to see where their problems lie. Having conceded in 91% of their games this season, Lecce are too vulnerable at the back.

Little faith in both defences

Things aren’t much better for Brescia, as only Lecce (76) have conceded more than their 71 goals this season. Letting in goals at a rate  of over two per game is always going to spell trouble, but at least the hosts can make up for it going forward. They’ve seen both teams score in 76% of their home games, scoring in eight on the spin here.

They’ve only failed to score at Inter in their post-restart away trips, while Lecce don’t look like keeping another clean sheet any time soon.
