Leeds vs Chelsea Predictions
- Leeds have scored twice in both of their games this season
- Rodrigo has scored three times already this term
- The Blues conceded twice against Spurs last weekend
- Leeds lost all 12 meetings with the top six last season, conceding 47 times
Fiery follow-up for Blues
After a heated afternoon against Tottenham on Sunday, Chelsea head for the calm, composed atmosphere of Elland Road. Of course, these two sides have a long-running rivalry dating back to the 70s, so expect a tense reception for the Blues this weekend.
Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel will hope to keep his cool a little better at Leeds, while Jesse Marsch doesn’t seem the type to wind him up. However, Marsch’s side have made a bright start and they’re capable of causing problems for the Blues.
Strong start for hosts
Leeds have made an unbeaten start to this campaign, although they’re probably disappointed to not have a perfect record. The hosts surrendered a 2-0 lead at Southampton last weekend. They can’t be too disappointed to be on four points after two games, having waited to October to match that last term.
Leeds are set to be without Patrick Bamford for this one, but that injury is an opportunity for Jesse Marsch. They can now move Rodrigo up front, allowing him to build on a brilliant start. The Spaniard has scored three times in his opening two games including a brace last time out. Back him to continue that great form by causing problems for the Blues.
Big test for Marsch’s side
Leeds had a terrible time against the Big Six last season, losing all 12 encounters. They were heavily beaten in almost every match, conceding an incredible 47 times. Over half of the 79 goals they conceded across 38 games last term came in those 12 matches. Marsch has his work cut out to prove he can make Leeds at least competitive.
They’ve scored twice in both of their opening games, while the Blues shipped two goals to Tottenham last weekend. The Chelsea defence doesn’t look completely solid yet, so both teams to score looks like the best bet in this clash.
However, given Leeds’ record against the top sides last term it’s hard to see their unbeaten start lasting. The Blues attack looked stronger against Spurs and they should find space against the hosts, so I’m going with a 3-1 win for the away side.
