Lille vs Chelsea Predictions

  • Lille have lost their three previous meetings with Chelsea
  • Including extra-time, Chelsea have won 10 of their last 11 games
  • The Blues have won to nil in 10 of 14 Champions League games under Tuchel

Lille have it all to do

Lille have been eliminated from each of their previous three European knockout ties when losing the first leg. Meanwhile, Chelsea have won nine of their 11 Champions League ties after winning the first leg, so the French champions have everything to do to overturn their 2-0 loss.

Lille have now lost all three of their Champions League meetings with the Blues. A defeat here would make Chelsea their worst opponents in the Champions League with four defeats, while it would compound a tough season for the club.

Blues powering on

Things are a bit all over the place for Chelsea off the pitch at the moment. Their immediate and long-term outlook is uncertain, with Technical Director Petr Cech saying the club is existing day-to-day at the moment. However, they haven’t let any issues show on the pitch.

Including extra time, the Blues have won 10 of their last 11 matches. Their only slip in that run was the Carabao Cup final, which they lost 11-10 on penalties after scoring three disallowed goals. Basically, there’s not much more Thomas Tuchel’s side could have done during a run.

World champions to prove too strong

Lille’s French title defence has left them sixth in the table, winning just 11 times in 28 matches. They’ve suffered home defeats to two of the top three, while they scored just once in their three group stage games at home in this competition.

Chelsea have won each of their last four since losing the Carabao Cup final. They’ve also won four successive away trips since returning from winning the Club World Cup. That should see them overcome a Lille side who have struggled to reach last season’s heights.

Since Thomas Tuchel arrived at Stamford Bridge, the Blues have won 10 of their 14 Champions League games to nil. Back the visitors to prove too strong in this trip, with a 1-0 victory my correct score prediction.
