Over 3.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

Over 3.5 goals is the best bet when Lille host Montpellier. The visitors have gone 15 away games without a clean sheet, while Lille have won five of their last seven home matches. With Montpellier struggling defensively, expect plenty of chances in an open contest.

Draw 2-2

Reason for tip

Lille may have one eye on their Champions League tie with Borussia Dortmund, making a 2-2 draw an appealing bet. Montpellier’s last two league draws finished 2-2, and the reverse fixture in December also saw both teams score twice.

Lille vs Montpellier Predictions

Goals galore expected at Stade Pierre-Mauroy

This looks set to be an entertaining encounter when Lille host Montpellier at Stade Pierre-Mauroy on Saturday, and over 3.5 goals is the recommended bet. The visitors have struggled at the back this season, which should give Bruno Genesio’s Lille side plenty of opportunities to score.

Lille are fifth in Ligue 1, having won 11 of their 24 games this season, while Montpellier are propping up the table with just four wins so far. The hosts are 13 places and 26 points above their visitors.

Lille have avoided defeat in their last 13 Ligue 1 meetings with Montpellier, winning five of their last seven home games. For their part, Montpellier are finding life tough, having sustained five successive defeats.

Montpellier’s struggles at the back should provide Lille with plenty of chances to score. The visitors have now gone 15 games without keeping a clean sheet on the road and are yet to keep a clean sheet away from home this season.

These sides drew 2-2 last time they met in Ligue 1 and that scoreline is appealing as a correct-score pick as Lille could be thinking about their midweek Champions League clash with Borussia Dortmund which is delicately poised following a 1-1 first-leg draw.

Montpellier’s last two league draws have also finished 2-2, and both teams had scored by the break in December’s reverse fixture.
