Liverpool vs AC Milan Predictions
- Liverpool and Milan have both scored in all of their domestic games this season.
- Liverpool have just one clean sheet in their last four home games against Italian sides in the Champions League.
- Milan have only failed to score in one of their last eight away games.
Liverpool face familiar European foes
Liverpool have been drawn in a tough looking Group B in the Champions League group stages and could be in for a tricky opener when in-form AC Milan visit Anfield on Wednesday.
The last time these two teams met in this competition was way back in 2007 as AC Milan claimed a 2-1 win in the final in Athens, avenging their defeat in the 2005 classic in Istanbul.
The Anfield outfit are unbeaten after four games this season with three wins and a draw, while the Rossoneri have won all three of their fixtures so far and were worthy winners in a 2-0 success over Lazio at the San Siro at the weekend.
Milan can make a mark on Merseyside
Liverpool may well win this game, but Milan will cause them a few problems and I think both teams can score in this match-up.
The Reds have managed three clean sheets this season but they did concede against Chelsea. Milan have scored seven goals in total in their three outings and have only failed to score in one of their last eight games, while Liverpool have a mixed record against Serie A opponents in this tournament – particularly at home.
Jurgen Klopp’s men lost 2-0 at home to Atalanta in the group stages last season and have just one clean sheet in their last four games against Italian teams at Anfield, with two wins, one draw and one defeat.
Experience gives Liverpool the edge
The Rossoneri may be the second most successful side in the history of the competition with seven titles, one more than Liverpool, but this will be their first season back in Europe’s premier competition since the 2013-14 campaign.
Last season Milan competed in the Europa League and did pick up some impressive results away from home. The Italian giants won at Celtic, which is never an easy place to visit, and managed draws at Manchester United and Crvena Zvezda, but Liverpool’s experience in this competition perhaps gives them a slight advantage here and as such a 2-1 win for the hosts is my correct score prediction.
