Liverpool vs Lille Predictions
- Lille are unbeaten in their last 20 games in all competitions
- Five of Lille’s last 14 games have finished 1-1
- Jonathan David has six goals in six Champions League games this season
Reds not quite at their best
Liverpool needed two late Darwin Nunez goals to squeeze past Brentford at the weekend and they may not have everything their own way when they host Lille on Tuesday.
The Reds have dropped points against Manchester United and Nottingham Forest in the league recently and were beaten 1-0 by Tottenham in the first leg of their EFL Cup semi-final.
They have been peerless in the Champions League however, winning all six of their European outings, and they are all but guaranteed an automatic spot in the last 16 as a result.
Arne Slot may choose to rotate somewhat in this game as a result, especially with the Premier League title race heating up in recent weeks.
Liverpool remain six points clear of Arsenal and Nottingham Forest in second and third respectively with a game in hand but they cannot take anything for granted in the battle to take home the crown.
Lille a big danger
They face a Lille side who have been impressive in their own Champions League efforts this season, winning four and drawing one of their six games to sit eighth in the table, although they are level on points with third-placed Arsenal.
The French side have beaten Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid and Bologna so cannot be taken for granted by Liverpool.
Jonathan David is the second-top scorer in the Champions League this season, having netted six times in as many games, and has been linked with a move through the January transfer window.
Lille are also third in Ligue 1 after losing just two of their 18 games in the league and sporting the second-best defensive record behind PSG, conceding just 17 times.
In fact, since a nightmare start to the campaign LOSC are unbeaten in their last 20 games in all competitions and could continue that run against Liverpool despite the Reds’ impressive campaign thus far.
David could star
With a point enough to see the home team progress to the knockouts, Slot could rotate his starting lineup and the visitors could at least avoid defeat on this away trip to give themselves a good chance of reaching the knockout stages.
Correct score backers should note the fact that four of Lille’s last 14 games have finished 1-1 and side with a low-scoring stalemate between these two.
Jonathan David has been crucial to any success that the French side have had this season and he looks a solid bet to get on the scoresheet once again in this clash.
