Liverpool vs Midtjylland Predictions
- Midtjylland conceded four goals at home to Atalanta in their last Champions League outing.
- The Danes conceded a whopping 18 shots and 10 attempts on target against La Dea.
- Liverpool lost just one of their last 18 Champions League home games.
- The Reds scored four or more times in six of those matches.
Liverpool build momentum
After a couple of sticky Premier League encounters against Aston Villa and Everton earlier this month, Liverpool resharpened their winning edge with successive victories against Ajax and Sheffield United over the past week – results that should set them up for another win against Danish minnows Midtjylland on Tuesday.
Jurgen Klopp’s men took three points from what could prove their toughest Group D fixture away at Ajax last week, though the Reds needed a slice of luck to eke out their 1-0 win through a Nicolás Tagliafico own goal.
Having scored two or fewer goals in each of their last five assignments, Liverpool have a chance to boost their numbers against an ordinary looking Midtjylland at Anfield this week, and a wide-margin Reds triumph is anticipated.
Tough Champions League campaign ahead of Danes
Midtjylland’s primary target in their first ever Champions League campaign was to be competitive against a pool of superior opponents, though their first showing against Atalanta last week suggested they will be anything but.
Brian Priske’s side were dismantled 4-0 at home by an attack-minded La Dea outfit, who could have plundered even more goals had they been a little more clinical with their 18 attempts at the MCH Arena.
Against a far more accomplished Liverpool team, Priske will fear an even bigger beating however, and Midtjylland could end up on the wrong side of a Merseyside mauling this week.
Back hosts to cut loose
Only Ferencvaros and Krasnodar conceded more shots than Midtjylland on match one of the Champions League’s group stage last week, though the 10 attempts on target they allowed Atalanta to rack up was the second highest number from Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s games.
With Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino all searching for their first continental goals of the new campaign, there is every chance Liverpool could create double figure opportunities against the Ulvene at Anfield on Tuesday, and we fully expect the goals to flow.
Midtjylland’s defending last week looked achingly poor and well below the standard you’d expect to see at Champions League level, and Liverpool – armed with one of Europe’s most ferocious frontlines – will expect to tear their opponent’s rearguard to shreds.
With that in mind, the over 3.5 Liverpool team goals market looks worth backing at the prices quoted, while our correct score prediction backs the Reds – who lost just once in 18 Champions League games at Anfield – to run out convincing 5-0 winners.
