Liverpool to Win and Under 2.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

Liverpool have lost just one of their last 13 domestic fixtures and, determined to bounce back from their Champions League exit, they can grind out a low-scoring victory over Newcastle in the EFL Cup final.

Liverpool 1-0

Reason for tip

Goals have typically been at a premium in the EFL Cup final with five of the last six producing under 2.5 goals and this game could also be tight. Liverpool won 2-0 when these sides clashed in February and this could be even closer with 1-0 the way to go.

Mohamed Salah To Score Anytime

Reason for tip

Mo Salah has been electrifying in the Premier League this season, scoring 27 times, and the Egyptian can rise to the occasion of the EFL Cup final, having scored twice against the Magpies earlier this season.

Liverpool vs Newcastle Predictions

  • Liverpool have lost just one of their last 13 domestic fixtures
  • Newcastle have lost three of their last five matches (games including extra-time)
  • One or both teams have failed to score in four of Newcastle’s last seven matches
  • Mo Salah has scored 32 goals in all competitions for Liverpool this season

Reds determined to bounce back from PSG defeat

Looking to end a 70-year wait for a major domestic trophy, Newcastle take on Liverpool in the EFL Cup final on Sunday and it could be an unhappy return to Wembley for the Magpies.

Newcastle lost 2-0 to Manchester United in the final of this competition in 2023 and an even tougher test awaits them this week with runaway Premier League leaders Liverpool standing in their way.

The Reds were sent packing in the Champions League on Tuesday, losing to PSG on penalties after a grueling 120-minute second leg at Anfield.

There is, however, still decent turnaround time for Arne Slot’s side and that result is more likely to spur them on than deflate them.

Magpies set for another tough contest

A Premier League and EFL Cup double is still in reach and they can get the job done in what will likely be a tough contest.

Liverpool played well in the second leg of their tie with PSG and they generally turn up for the big occasions, having beaten Manchester City and hammered Tottenham 4-0 in February alone.

In the same month they were also 2-0 winners against the Magpies, who were completely stifled at Anfield, where they failed to steer a shot on target.

They did not have Alexander Isak available on that occasion but even with the Swede back in the side, Newcastle may struggle to breach the Reds rearguard.

Low-scoring final trend set to continue

Liverpool have barely put a foot wrong in the Premier League this season, losing just one of their 29 fixtures, while they have conceded on average less than a goal per game (0.93) this term.

Alisson put in one of the best goalkeeping performances in the club’s history to deny PSG at the Parc des Princes recently and if he is on form, Newcastle could be in trouble.

Ultimately a low-scoring contest looks likely with a Liverpool win and under 2.5 goals appealing, while a 1-0 win for the Merseysiders is the way to go in the correct score betting with five of the last six EFL Cup finals featuring under 2.5 goals.

Mo Salah has underwhelmed in the Champions League but domestically he has shone with 27 league goals this season and he bagged a brace against Newcastle in a 3-3 draw back in December.

With that in mind, he could be the pick in the goalscorer markets.
