Luton and Coventry meet in one of the early Championship games on Saturday in what is clearly the standout clash in the penultimate round of fixtures.

The Hatters edged out Coventry on penalties in the 2023 Championship play-off final but they lasted just one season in the Premier League and are now in real danger of suffering back-to-back relegations.

Luton go into this round of fixtures inside the bottom three but they are level on points with Derby in the final safe spot.

There are two play-off spots yet to be decided and Coventry are in possession of one of them in sixth spot, three points clear of Middlesbrough and Millwall below them.

In some respects this is a bit of a cup final for these teams but for both it is more of a must not lose fixture rather than a must-win. A point would guarantee that Luton would still be able to survive going into the final round of fixtures, and a point would ensure Coventry are in the platy-off spots going into their final game.

Luton are the team in the better form as they have just one defeat in their last eight and have won their last two and if either team is to edge this game it may well be the home side, but there is a real chance the spoils could be shared as well so the best betting angle could be backing both teams to score.

Luton have scored in each of their last six games and have also conceded in four of those fixtures, while both teams to score has been a winning bet in five of Coventry’s last six away games and they have conceded in all of those.

A hard-fought 2-1 win for Luton is the correct score pick as they are clearly the team in the greater need. Coventry are at home to Middlesbrough in the final round of fixtures so they will still have their fate in their own hands even if they lose on Saturday, whereas this is Luton’s last home game of the season and they may feel a greater need to force the issue. The Sky Blues are also winless in four away from home and have lost three of those games, while Luton beat promotion hopefuls Bristol City 3-1 in their last home game.
