Lyon vs Juventus Predictions
- Lyon have only won two of their last six matches in all competitions.
- Juventus won each of their last five Champions League group stage games and are unbeaten in the competition this season.
- Juventus have won three of their four previous meetings with Lyon, with both away games ending 1-0.
Injury-hit Lyon struggle for form
Lyon may have managed to pick up three points at Metz on Friday, but there’s no denying the French giants are struggling at the moment. They have been almost ever-present in the Ligue 1 top four for over 20 years, but at the time of writing find themselves down in seventh position, six points adrift of Lille in fourth.
Of course, they have had their share of success this season. Qualifying from their Champions League group was one of their highlights, but a succession of injuries and poor performances has sucked the joy out of Parc OL. They come into this match having won just two of their last six in all competitions, and are still without star man Memphis Depay.
Depay’s absence leaves them short of quality going forward, never a good position to be in when faced with the prospect of Juventus’ vastly experienced and talented back line.
Ronaldo leads Juventus charge with scoring streak
Juventus might not be dominating Serie A as they have done the last few years, but they remain in top spot after their victory over SPAL on Saturday. The Old Lady have now won seven of their last 11 competitive away games, with many of these being played against teams in much better shape than this Lyon outfit.
Even more encouraging was Cristiano Ronaldo finding the net yet again, meaning the attacker has now scored a sensational 23 goals in his last 18 matches for club and country. As we all know, the all-time leading scorer in the Champions League has a tendency to turn on the style when it comes to this competition.
Old Lady clear favourites for this tie
Understandably, Juventus are favourites for this tie. The visiting Italians won each of their last five Champions League group stage games and their four previous meetings with Lyon have produced three wins and a draw.
We’re backing a Juventus win here and with both their previous trips to Lyon ending 1-0 to Juventus, we like the look of that for our correct score prediction, especially with Lyon missing such a key attacker in Depay.
