Monaco Over 1.5 Team Goals

Reason for tip

Monaco have scored at least two goals in eight of their last nine away Ligue 1 matches while Lyon have shipped three times in two of their last three home league games.

Monaco 2-1

Reason for tip

Monaco have won seven of their last eight away league games and drew the other with nine men, so it looks worth taking them to come out on top. Lyon have won only one of their last three at Groupama Stadium and have shipped an average of 2.33 goals per game across that sequence. Monaco have kept three straight clean sheets, but have shut out only two of their last nine road opponents so a 2-1 win feels about right.

Les Gones have gone backwards in defence

Lyon’s luck may run out against the men from Monte Carlo as an in-form Monaco side look capable of scoring a couple of goals at Groupama Stadium on Sunday.

Pierre Sage’s hosts suffered a setback at the Parc des Princes last weekend when they went down 4-1 to a PSG side without a few big-name regulars.

Les Gones had been in excellent nick before that, but there were signs in a recent 4-3 win over Brest that they were struggling defensively. Lyon faced the second-highest number of shots they done all season in that game and shipped three goals in the space of eight second-half minutes.

Monaco can profit from Lyon’s lapses

Monaco are more than good enough to make Lyon pay if they are just as open as in their last two matches. Adi Hutter’s men only trail PSG in shooting efficiency and have kept three consecutive clean sheets since the start of April.

Les Monagasques have won seven of their last eight away league games and drew the other after having two players sent off, so it’s fair to say they are fine form on the road. The only reason not to back them to take all three points is Lyon’s solid home form, which features five wins in their last eight.

But the goals against column is mounting again and with Monaco regular multiple scorers away from home the recommended bet here is to back the visitors to register at least twice.
