Malmo FF vs Varberg BoIS Predictions
- At least three goals have been scored in four of Malmo’s last five Allsvenskan matches.
- At least three goals have been scored in the last four Varberg league games and three of their last four away from home.
- A total of 16 goals have been scored in the last four head-to-head league meetings between the clubs.
Youthful Varberg shown the way by Vikingur
Varberg get the opportunity to put Malmo’s shaky defence – which was breached twice by Vikingur Reykjavic on Tuesday – to the test when they travel to Eleda Stadion in search of a much-needed result.
Joakim Persson’s side recorded an important 3-0 home win over Varnamo last weekend to give themselves some breathing space just above the drop zone, but away points have largely eluded them since the opening-round win at Norrkoping.
That 1-0 win came on artificial turf, but three of their subsequent four away defeats have also been on the same surface and it would seem that Varberg struggle more when not on natural grass. Persson presides over a young squad and a lack of experience can also be a reason behind their road-trip troubles.
Plenty of goals in past Malmo v Varberg contests
Malmo, at 1/3, are strong fancies to bag the points, but they have lost twice as many games as they have won in the last two months. A 2-1 away loss to relegation-threatened GIF Sundsvall should have their backers running for the hills here, but Varberg offer little appeal either on their current away form.
An opportunity presents itself in the goal markets, however, where the stats align to an over 2.5 goals play. At least three goals have been scored in four of Malmo’s last five Allsvenskan matches and also in the last four Varberg league games, including three of their last four away from home.
In fact, a total of 16 goals have been scored across the last four league meetings between the clubs since Varberg were promoted in 2020, averaging at 4.0 per game. Varberg have been responsible for exactly half of those too, so it’s not been a one-sided matchup, which suggests this could also be much closer than the oddsmakers believe.
A 2-2 draw offers great value in correct score betting with Malmo having shipped 11 goals in their last six league games and Varberg’s net bulging 12 times across the same number of matches.
