Manchester City vs Feyenoord Predictions
- Manchester City have conceded 14 goals across their last five matches
- Feyenoord have scored three times in their last two Champions League trips
- The Citizens have kept three clean sheets in their last 13 matches
- Milambo is Feyenoord’s top scorer in Europe, netting three goals across their two away games in this competition
City heavy favourites to end losing streak
Pep Guardiola’s contract extension wasn’t able to spark a Manchester City turnaround at the weekend, with a 4-0 thumping against Tottenham sparking even more concern for the Premier League champions. City have now lost five on the spin and their latest defeat was the most alarming of the lot, given the margin and considering it was their first home loss since the eve of the 2022 World Cup.
City are expected to receive a boost in the Champions League this week, as they’re 1/5 to beat Dutch side Feyenoord. Their return of seven points from four games in the new-look competition has them just a point clear of the Eredivisie outfit, leaving the Citizens 10th in the 36-team table. They need to improve to avoid clogging their fixture schedule with an extra set of knockout games, never mind their desperation for an end to Guardiola’s worst run of his career.
Feyenoord pose a threat
The visitors are seen as vulnerable here and that’s to be expected, with the club conceding 10 times through their first four European games. City head into the game as short as 1/25 to find the net, so it’s odd that both teams to score is available at a shade under evens.
City’s latest loss put their defensive vulnerabilities on full display once again, having conceded 14 goals across their last five matches. They’ve kept only three clean sheets across their last 13 matches in all competitions and there’s little to suggest that can improve against Feyenoord.
The visitors have picked up their two victories in Europe away from home this season, winning 3-2 at Girona and 3-1 against Benfica. The Dutch side have seen both teams score in their last three Champions League ties and they were 3-0 winners domestically on Saturday.
Go for goals at the Etihad
Given how City were routinely exposed on Saturday, it’s hard to see them suddenly switching things up and grinding out a low-scoring victory. There are reasons for the hosts to be confident, as they’re clearly the stronger side and the gulf in class should see them outscore a Feyenoord side who have lost the Expected Goals battle in all four Champions League games so far.
However, City face a crucial clash with Premier League leaders Liverpool on Sunday and Guardiola may make some painful choices with his threadbare squad to focus on that game. Even a full-strength City have been short on defensive solidity and Feyenoord have scored three goals in each of their last two European trips, so both teams to score jumps out in this one.
The Dutch side have seen forward Antoni Milambo score three times across their two European away trips so far and the forward should be a threat again on Tuesday. Given City’s huge issues at the back, getting Feyenoord’s top scorer in Europe this term at 13/2 to score anytime is hard to argue with.
