Manchester City vs PSG Predictions
- Man City have won their last nine Champions League games at the Etihad
- The hosts have won three from four in this group this term
- City are posting record xG numbers in Europe and they’re the second-highest scorers in the competition after four rounds
Showdown for first place
PSG won 2-0 when these two sides clashed in Paris, but slip ups against Club Brugge and RB Leipzig have left them second in the group. A defeat on Wednesday night would see them surrender any chance of finishing first.
Both of these sides have made winning the Champions League their ultimate goal. Neither have won the trophy yet despite the riches they’ve invested into their squads. Finishing second and being unseeded in the last 16 makes that dream even more difficult, so this showdown really matters.
City in stellar form
City cruised to a 3-0 win over Everton on Sunday and with three wins on the spin behind them Pep Guardiola’s side look strong. They’ve scored nine times across those three and their scoring form in Europe is impressive.
Only Bayern Munich (17) have scored more goals than City (15) in the Champions League so far this season. The Citizens are averaging 3.4 expected goals (xG) per game in the competition, the highest per game average by a side in the group stage.
Another setback for PSG
The visitors haven’t won an away game in the Champions League this term and they’re winless in three on the road in Europe after losing at the Etihad in April. Meanwhile, City are in great form at their own ground.
Man City have won their last nine home games in the Champions League and I’m backing that run to continue. City are good value for a victory, while a 2-1 home win is my correct score prediction as City have conceded in eight of their last nine in this competition.
