Manchester United vs Brighton Predictions
- Brighton have won five of the last six Premier League meetings between these sides.
- Manchester United have gone 11 games without a clean sheet.
- Albion are unbeaten in six across all competitions.
Bogey team Brighton head to Old Trafford
Manchester United managed to fight back from a goal down to beat struggling Southampton on Thursday but their luck may run out against Brighton at Old Trafford on Sunday.
The Seagulls won 2-1 in the reverse fixture and they’ve had the measure of United in recent seasons, with five wins in the last six Premier League head-to-head meetings.
Brighton’s status as a bogey team for United makes them appeal as backable underdogs here but there are a few other reasons to side with the visitors at a big price.
Europe still in sight for Seagulls
Brighton ended an eight-game winless run in the league by seeing off struggling Ipswich 2-0 in their midweek game. Albion only lost two of those games, however, and they head to Old Trafford seeking a third successive victory after last week’s FA Cup thrashing of Norwich.
United looked poor for large periods against Southampton and they deserved to be a goal behind for much of the game. The comeback started on 82 minutes and the manner of the response should encourage boss Ruben Amorim, but a similar level of display probably won’t be enough for any points against Brighton.
The Seagulls are still in the mix for European football despite that run of six points from eight games and on paper results during that period weren’t that bad. Prior to beating Ipswich, Brighton held title contenders Arsenal to a 1-1 draw and they look to be picking up after a tough spell, whereas United are still yet to get going under their new manager.
Goals could be in short supply
I’m going for a 2-0 win for Brighton as the correct score prediction as this has the potential to be fairly low-scoring.
Under 2.5 goals has been a winning bet in four of Brighton’s last six league games and if they do go a goal or two up they have the quality to grind out a clean sheet. United have conceded in 11 successive games across all competitions and they’ve failed to score in each of their last three defeats – while they’ve conceded at least twice in five of their last seven games across all competitions and exactly twice in three of those.
Joao Pedro had a poor game by his standards at Ipswich but can respond with a goal on Sunday. The Brighton forward had managed a goal and two assists in his two previous games, and he scored the winner in the reverse fixture earlier in the season.
