Manchester United vs Ipswich Predictions
- Both teams have scored in nine of Ipswich’s 11 away games.
- Manchester United have won only three of their last 13 league matches.
- Liam Delap has ten league goals this season
Not many positives for Red Devils
Ruben Amorim’s first game in charge of Manchester United came in the reverse fixture between them and Ipswich in November and it is hard to say that the team’s fortunes have improved since then.
The Red Devils managed to rescue a point from 2-0 down against Everton at the weekend but their general performance was way below par.
They were also fortunate to share the spoils in that clash given the late penalty for the Toffees that was overturned by VAR and they remain 15th in the Premier League.
Amroim’s side are in the midst of an injury crisis, particularly in defence, and they fielded five teenagers on the bench at the weekend as a result.
Man United have two wins from their last ten league games, losing six of those, and are set for their worst finish in Premier League history.
Tractor Boys battling the drop
The small respite for Amorim’s men is that they host Ipswich tomorrow, with the Tractor Boys drifting further towards relegation by the second.
Five defeats in their last six games means that Kieran McKenna’s team are now five points adrift of Wolves in 17th after the Old Gold beat Bournemouth at the weekend.
Time is running out for all three of the promoted clubs to avoid making it back-to-back seasons in which all three teams that came up go straight back down.
They were a touch unfortunate to lose 4-1 to Tottenham at the weekend but their inability to put away their first-half chances cost them dearly as Spurs pulled away with two late goals to seal the win.
To make matters worse both of Ipswich’s starting central midfield pairing of Kalvin Phillips and Jens Cajuste limped off with injuries and it remains to be seen if they will feature in this clash.
The injuries have started to pile up at just the wrong point of the season for the Tractor Boys although they will be able to welcome back former Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe from suspension.
Delap to star
With both teams injury-stricken and low on confidence, this could be a scrappy affair. The Red Devils have lost more home league games than they have won but given Ipswich’s recent form it is hard to side with them getting what would be a crucial victory.
Both teams have scored in the visitors’ last five games and a repeat of that looks likely, particularly as the home team may struggle to deal with the physicality of Liam Delap up front. The Ipswich forward has ten league goals this season and could add to that tally in this clash.
Manchester United have suffered six 1-1 draws this season and with both teams struggling recently, that is the correct score pick.
