Marseille vs Nantes Predictions

Defensive issues can be exploited

Marseille host Nantes at Stade Velodrome on Sunday and there should be plenty of goals in this one. Nantes have struggled at the back this season and, with over 3.5 goals looking a good bet, backing Roberto De Zerbi’s side to run up a big score could pay off.

They are second in Ligue 1, 12 places and 22 points above Nantes, with 14 wins, four draws and five losses from their 23 games this season. Nantes have won five, drawn nine and lost nine.

Marseille have avoided defeat in their last nine Ligue 1 meetings with Nantes, and beat St-Etienne 5-1 two weeks ago in their most recent home game. It’s hard to draw many conclusions from Nantes’ results, with two wins, two draws and two defeats in their last six outings. They were 3-1 winners against Lens on Sunday.

Both teams have been struggling defensively of late, which should mean goals. Marseille have failed to keep a clean sheet in 16 of their last 19 Ligue 1 games and Nantes have gone nine games without recording a shutout.

Marseille have won four of their last six Ligue 1 home games and have won two of their last three league matches by at least two goals. Nantes have been beaten by two or more in two of their last three games, so a 3-1 win for Marseille is an attractive correct-score bet.
