The relegation battle

Clermont travel to Metz on Sunday with ambitions of distancing themselves from the relegation zone – and playing the league’s bottom side will provide the ideal opportunity.

Clermont currently sit seventeenth in the table, one point above the relegation zone, and could pull even further away if results go their way. Metz, on the other hand, are rock bottom, five points away from safety, and a win for them would drag them to within two points of their opponents going into the final four six games of the season.

Neither side, however, have a good goal record this season, and will look to capitalise on their opponents’ defensive shortcomings.
