MK Dons vs Exeter Predictions

Two of the bookmakers’ League Two promotion favourites face off at the Stadium MK on Saturday as Milton Keynes Dons take on table-topping Exeter City.

Both sides have had impressive unbeaten starts to 2018/19, avoiding defeat in all of their League Two and Carabao Cup fixtures so far. Milton Keynes Dons are looking to bounce straight back up to League One after relegation and they already look like one of the most formidable outfits in the division.

MK Dons opened their account for the season with back-to-back wins against Oldham Athletic and Bury and they followed up those victories with a fine 3-0 triumph over Charlton Athletic in the Cup.

Paul Tisdale’s men hit their first bump of the season after their Cup win however, with successive draws frustrating their attempts to reach the summit of League Two. MK Dons drew 0-0 at Crewe last week, and 1-1 at home to Grimsby on Tuesday, though it’s the latter result that will have caused the most angst.

Milton Keynes Dons played against 10 men for the last ten minutes or so of the contest, but were unable to find a way past James McKeown in the Grimsby net. In fact, apart from their rousing display against Charlton in the cup, the Dons haven’t really excelled as an attacking force so far this term.

Their opponents on Saturday, Exeter City are sitting on top of League Two after four games, having won three and drawn one of their opening quarter of games. The Grecians have looked solid in all departments since kicking off their campaign, scoring eight times and conceding only twice in their first set of league fixtures.

Early goals from Jonathan Forte and Jayden Stockley helped Exeter to maintain their 100% record on the road at Cambridge United’s expense on Tuesday. City flexed their muscles a couple of weeks ago to knock Championship side Ipswich Town out of the Carabao Cup, further pushing home the quality and confidence surging through their squad.

A trip to take on Milton Keynes Dons on their own turf is undoubtedly Exeter’s toughest League Two match of the season to date, though they face a Dons team whose edge might be a little blunted. Two draws on the trot will have knocked MK Dons out of their groove a little and Exeter can take advantage of that.

We’re tipping Exeter not to lose on Saturday and we recommend taking the Double Chance offer for extra insurance. The Grecians just don’t look like losing at present and we expect them to extend their unbeaten start to the season this weekend.

Three of MK Dons last four games have finished with under 2.5 goals scored and Exeter’s recent fixtures have produced a similar pattern. All four of their most recent games finished with under 2.5 goals scored. With both teams ranked among the best in the division, goals should be at a premium again in what should be a tight contest. With that in mind, we expect under 2.5 goals to be registered again on Saturday.

Our correct score prediction forecasts a narrow 1-0 win for Exeter City, which will ensure they hold on to top stop in League Two.
