A huge game in the race for automatic promotion in League One takes place at Stadium MK on Saturday. MK Dons can replace Wigan in the top 2 with a win and that will mark the end of a bad week for Wigan who were knocked out of the EFL Trophy by  Sutton on Tuesday.

Dangerous Dons may flourish under the pressure

Liam Manning is doing a terrific job at MK Dons, should his side achieve promotion this season it would be thoroughly deserved. MK Dons have only lost once in the league in 2022 and have arguably been the 2^nd best team in League One so far this season. MK Dons go into Saturday’s game having won their last five matches, it’s an unbeaten run that extends to 10, dating back to 22^nd of January, when they feel to a 1-0 defeat against Doncaster, their only league defeat this calendar year. The Dons can take further encouragement from when these sides met at the DW Stadium in October, Liam Manning’s men ran out 2-1 winners that day, and are in much better form this time round.

Wigan had trouble on the road lately

Having occupied a top two spot for so long, should Wigan fail to achieve automatic promotion this season it would be a crushing blow. If The Latics are to cling onto 2^nd spot, they will need to address their recent slump in form on the road. Wigan have won just one of their last five away matches, it’s this form blip that has allowed the chasing pack to close and they are now level on points with Saturday’s hosts. 

Having watched both of these sides this season, I was far more impressed with what I saw from Liam Manning’s side. They certainly have the players to cause Wigan all sorts of problems on Saturday. There may be some hangover on the Wigan side from Tuesday’s shock defeat in the EFL Trophy semi-final against Sutton. MK Dons to win is the main selection in this one, for the correct score prediction, I suggest chancing a 2-0 home win.
