Moldova vs Belarus Predictions
Belarus made light work of beating minnows San Marino on match-day one, so they’ll travel to Moldova in good spirits. Beating the Moldovans away from home will be tougher, though the visitors will be confident, while they’ll be keen on establishing themselves as the top dogs in this group.
Belarus are anything but footballing big boys, but they ought to be relishing the chance to take on some weak sides in this UEFA Nations League. By going up against Moldova, San Marino and Luxembourg, Tuesday’s visitors know that they’ve been handed the opportunity to bag themselves a string of confidence-boosting results.
Prior to thrashing San Marino by five goals to nil, which is nothing really to shout about, Belarus had acquitted themselves reasonably well. Igor Kriushenko’s men have now lost just one of their last six matches. During that time, they’ve beaten the likes of Slovenia and Azerbaijan away from home, so it’s not at all difficult to see the visitors thriving against a Moldova side that comes here off the back of a 4-0 thumping at the hands of lowly Luxembourg.
In contrast, Moldova struggled massively on match-day one, as they returned from their trip to Luxembourg with nothing but a 4-0 defeat. In going up against fellow minnows, the Moldovans would’ve been hoping for a much better result, and while they weren’t completely outplayed, they can’t really have any complaints, as their defensive performance was shocking, while they lacked quality at the other end of proceedings.
While Moldova haven’t always defended as poorly as they did last time out, they’ve rarely offered a threat going forward, which is worrying, especially since Belarus haven’t exactly struggled in that respect. Tuesday’s hosts have failed to score in each of their last two fixtures, while they’ve scored just once in their last ten. If they could keep things tight at the back, then that may not be as much of a problem, though considering that they’ve kept just two clean sheets during that time, such scoring woes really are hampering them.
Belarus may not be the best side defensively, but they’re far better at keeping teams out than the Moldovans, while they offer significantly more offensively, both in terms of creativity and end-product, which could be telling on Tuesday.
In truth, if the visitors can be patient, then this really is theirs to lose. Moldova will predictably offer little going forward, so providing that they don’t give anything away cheaply, Belarus should have enough in the locker to get the three points. That said, they shouldn’t be expected to run away with proceedings. As the visitors have scored no more than two on the road since 2014, the bet that catches the eye most is ‘Belarus to Win & Under 3.5 Goals’.
