Monaco vs PSV Predictions

  • At least three goals have been scored in Monaco’s last three pre-season games.
  • At least three goals have been scored in all six of PSV’s pre-season games.
  • There were goals aplenty when PSV beat Ajax 5-3 t win the Johan Cruijff Schaal last weekend.

Goals seem guaranteed in Monte Carlo

Monaco and PSV Eindhoven should provide entertainment at both ends in Tuesday’s Champions League qualifier at Stade Louis II with multiple goals almost guaranteed. The hosts are coming off a couple of pre-season defeats in which their attackers shone, but enough holes were exposed in their defence to be a serious worry.

Wissam Ben Yedder seems to be ready to pick up where he left off at the end of last season and he has plenty of attacking talent around him with the summer additions of Breel Embolo and Takumi Minamino. But the Monagasques backline was made to look ragged by Porto in a 2-1 defeat that should have been heavier – and again by Southampton last week.

PSV – now under their legendary ex-striker Ruud van Nistelrooy’s charge – were dangerous and deadly in defeating Ajax 5-3 in their own backyard to win the Dutch super cup on Saturday. The Lightbulbs can be destructive on the counter-attack and, in Guus Till, have brought in the sort of midfielder who can ghost into space and finish ruthlessly.

Clinical Ben Yedder can be the difference

It’s no surprise to see that clean sheets were rare in their warm-up games too because their central defenders lack experience. Both teams to score should land on Tuesday, but taking an extra goal for the odds boost seems worth a shot given all-but one of the two sides’ ten combined pre-season games featured at least three strikes.

A 2-1 home win is taken here because Ben Yedder will be the most clinical striker on the field and although Luuk de Jong has his qualities, the Monaco man is the one to put your money on when the chips are down.
