Montreal Impact vs Atlanta United Predictions
Montreal Impact defeated Toronto in their midweek Canadian Championship tie on penalties but this weekend’s hosts have lost their last three league games and sit ninth in the Eastern Conference table. Atlanta United lost heavily at New York City in midweek, going down 4-1 in the end, and look set to be without their top scorer Josef Martinez for Sunday’s clash.
All of the stats suggest that we will see both teams score and over 2.5 goals in Sunday’s match and we’ve backed Montreal Impact to end their losing streak against Altnat aunited courtesy of a narrow 2-1 victory.
Atlanta United have had the better of Montreal Impact in the majority of their encounters but both teams scored and over 2.5 goals were produced in four of the previous five meetings between these two clubs. Montreal Impact’s two home games against Atlanta United have both ended 2-1, with both teams picking up a win apiece, and three of the five meetings between these two clubs have ended 2-1, so you can see why we’ve backed a final scoreline of 2-1 this weekend.
The form of both teams heading into this match suggests that the hosts can win this game, as Montreal Impact have won three of their last six matches, two of which were at home, while three of Atlanta United’s last six matches have ended in defeat, two of which were away.
The performances of both teams during the last month or so add weight to our prediction of at least three goals being scored and both teams netting on Sunday, as both teams scored and over 2.5 goals were produced in five of Atlanta United’s last six matches and Montreal Impact have only kept one clean sheet in their last four home games, while their guests have scored in their last eleven away games.
Atlanta United’s top scorer Josef Martinez has 26 MLS goals this season, 48% of the clubs total league goals, but looks set to miss this game through injury and we feel this will play a major role in Sunday’s result as the visitors’ next highest goalscorer, Gonzalo Martinez, has just five league goals to his name this season.
We’re confident that both teams will score and over 2.5 goals will be produced on Sunday and have predicted a final scoreline of 2-1 in favour of Montreal Impact. The form of both teams of late has been hit and miss but, with the home advantage and knowing that Martinez is unlikely to feature for Atlanta United, we feel Montreal impact are best placed to claim all three points this weekend.
