Montreal Impact vs LA Galaxy Predictions

After finishing 3rd in last season’s MLS Eastern Conference Montreal Impact began this season in high spirits. They won their opening two matches in style as they beat Whitecaps 3-2 and New York Red Bulls 3-0, and they managed to bounce back from back to back defeats to win another two matches.

However, a 2-0 loss at home to Canadian rivals Toronto FC set them off on a winless streak that they are still enduring. They haven’t won any of their last six matches in the MLS, losing two and drawing four. Their most recent outing saw them defeated 2-1 at Orlando City.

This puts Montreal Impact in 5th position in the Eastern Conference, although the underperformance of the division as a whole means that a victory in this one could take them to the top of the table. A defeat would give Orlando City, DC United, and New England Revolution the chance to leapfrog them though.

LA Galaxy started the season poorly as they went into half-time in their first match 1-0 down at home to DC United. There must have been a hell of a team talk from Bruce Arena though, because they came out and overturned the deficit to win 4-1.

A 1-0 defeat to Colorado Rapids followed, but to date that is their only defeat in the MLS this season. No other team in the entire MLS can match their loss total, and the visitors come into this game unbeaten in nine matches.

Only four of these have been victories though, meaning that they occupy 3rd position in the Western conference with 20 points from their opening 11 games. This leaves them seven points off the top spot holders Colorado Rapids, but they have two games in hand on them and three in hand on 2nd placed FC Dallas.

LA Galaxy do struggle to pick up wins away from home, but the fact is they have still only lost one game all season, meaning they have avoided defeat in 80% of their away games. Considering Montreal Impact are winless in six and have only managed two points from their last three home matches I think odds of 13/20 for an LA Galaxy Win or Draw Double Chance are excellent value. They are made even better by the fact that LA Galaxy have never lost to Montreal Impact.

Three of their four meetings have ended as draws though, and I expect the same to happen this weekend too, so I’m backing a 2-2 correct score prediction at 11/1.
