Qualification at stake for Well and Thistle

Premiership outfit Motherwell entertain Partick Thistle in the final round of League Cup first round games on Sunday.

This clash is a tough one to call as Saturday’s games will impact what Motherwell need to do. If Clyde win, Well will definitely need a point but there is also a chance they will be guaranteed a place in the next round as their current tally of eight points could be enough to see them ranked among the best second placed teams – but that is dependent on the results of the games on Saturday.

For Partick, the situation is much clearer as victory would almost certainly see them top the group irrespective of other results (barring a big win for Clyde) and anything less would end their Scottish League Cup campaign.

The most likely scenario is that both of these teams will need something and on that basis both teams to score looks a good starting point.

As the Jags have been in good scoring form they may be able to get a couple of goals here and a 2-2 draw is the correct score pick. A stalemate would be enough for the Steelmen to claim top spot, even if they lose the spot kicks, and they can get the result they need on Sunday.
