Over 2.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

The sides shared 20 goals over the four league fixtures last season with no fewer than three strikes every time they met. This could go the same way given both clubs have been regularly finding the net in the League Cup.

Motherwell 2-1

Reason for tip

Motherwell beat Ross County 5-1 when they met in Dingwall at the back end of last season, but they are not in the same form right now. Still, a 2-1 win must be considered given Ross County lost eight of their final 10 away league games in 2023-24, drawing the other two.

Cup setback makes Motherwell uneasy favourites

Motherwell could be too strong for Ross County when the two sides kick off their Premiership campaigns at Fir Park on Saturday, although a disappointing display in the League Cup last time makes them tougher to back at odds-on.

Stuart Kettlewell’s men turned in a weak performance against Partick Thistle on Sunday, losing to the Championship side on penalties after a 0-0 draw.

Injuries have derailed what had been a largely positive pre-season programme for the Steelmen and the disjointed nature of their display was evidence that there is still some way to go before they can be considered top-half contenders this term.

Go for goals at Fir Park

Ross County avoided relegation after a play-off last May and one of the main reasons why they found themselves in trouble was their woeful away form. The Staggies lost eight of their last 10 road trips and were also beaten 5-1 at home by Motherwell when they met in Dingwall last May.

This game could go either way, depending on which team turns up in the right mood, so it may be best to seek value in the goal markets here.

The four clashes between these clubs produced a total of 20 goals last term with at least three strikes registered in each of them and this one may also go over the 2.5-goal mark.
