Netherlands vs Italy Predictions
- Italy have scored for 12 successive matches.
- Netherlands notched in nine of their last 10 competitive games at home.
- Italy are unbeaten in 15 games ahead of their trip to Amsterdam.
Dutch open with a victory
With Ronald Koeman back at Barcelona and Dwight Lodeweges in temporary charge, fears that the Netherlands’ progress might be hampered by managerial upheaval were allayed when the Oranje beat Poland 1-0 in Amsterdam on Friday evening.
The Netherlands, who were the dominant force throughout against a Lewandowski-less Poland team, finally got the winning goal they deserved just after the hour mark through Steven Bergwijn, and though they were unable to add gloss to the final scoreline, the victory was an impressive one.
Armed with a run of six wins from their last seven matches, and seven victories from eight on their own patch, the Dutch have momentum behind them, though they could find toppling a tough to crack Italy team a tough ask.
Italy held at home
Italy started their Nations League campaign in largely disappointing fashion when they were held to a 1-1 draw by Bosnia and Herzegovina on Friday evening.
The visitors took a second half lead through AS Roma star Edin Dzeko before they were pegged back by promising midfielder Stefano Sensi, though the hosts, who racked up 20 attempts on goal, couldn’t find the winner they probably deserved.
The tie also ended a super 11-match winning streak for the Italians, though their chances of igniting a fresh string of success in the Netherlands look slim.
Goals likely at both ends
After their effort on Friday in Firenze, Italy extended their run of scoring in successive matches to 12, but having conceded in five of their last eight, it’s clear that defensive problems continue to linger.
The Netherlands have the attacking tools to exploit any chinks in the Azzurri’s armour this week, and having notched in nine of their last 10 competitive matches at home, a home goal should be expected, though Italy’s fine record of consistently finding the net suggests Roberto Mancini’s men should also register.
With those factors considered, the both teams to score market holds plenty of value at the quoted odds, while our correct score prediction points towards a 1-1 draw.
Armed with a seriously impressive 15-match unbeaten run, Italy have the confidence and class to avoid defeat in Amsterdam, and having scored one goal each in their respective Nations League openers last week, we’re backing the Netherlands and the Italians to share the spoils in a 1-1 draw on Monday.
