New York Red Bulls vs Toronto FC Predictions

Whatever came over last season’s MLS Supporters Shield champions at the beginning of this campaign seems to have been sorted out. They began the season with six defeats from their first seven games, a record which unsurprisingly left them at the bottom of the MLS Eastern Conference.

However, they have turned it around over the last month or so. It began with a 3-2 win at home to Orlando City, followed by a 4-0 thrashing of FC Dallas before they drew at Orlando City and lost at DC United. They bounced back with a 1-0 win against Chicago Fire, but it was the weekend just gone where they really turned on the style.

New York Red Bulls visited the Yankee Stadium for their Hudson River Derby clash with New York City, and an absolutely clinical performance from the visitors saw them come away having won 7-0. This has pushed them up to 4th in the Eastern Conference, and with the rest of the table not performing particularly well they are now only three points adrift of top of the table Philadelphia Union.

Toronto FC are just above the Red Bulls in 3rd position, with the same points total and a game in hand on them. They are also looking to move to the top of the table on Saturday night, but they come into the game on the back of a three match winless streak.

The visitors last two matches have seen them draw against New York City and Columbus Crew following a loss at home to Whitecaps. They began their season with eight straight away games and looked really good, but their return to home turf hasn’t resulted in the form that they will have been hoping for.

Away from home they have won three, lost three, and drawn two, whilst New York Red Bulls have won four and lost two of their games at the Red Bull Arena.

Backing against New York Red Bulls to win would be dangerous considering the confidence they will have gained from the thrashing of their rivals. They have won four of their six home games and are looking resurgent, whereas Toronto FC’s confidence will be low after a poor run of home results.

All but one of New York Red Bulls last nine outings has had at least two goals scored in it as well and they are looking in great scoring form at the moment. This makes odds of 17/20 for a New York Red Bulls Win and Over 1.5 Goals look very good value to me, so I’m backing that along with a 3-1 win for the hosts at 11/1.
