Newcastle vs Fulham Predictions
- Newcastle have won seven of their last eight Premier League games
- Fulham have scored in 10 consecutive away league games, including two or more in
- Newcastle have scored exactly three goals in five of their last seven home games
Pulsating clash in prospect
Newcastle and Fulham can produce a pulsating clash at St James’ Park on Saturday with Eddie Howe’s men just good enough to collect all three points against the game Cottagers.
Marco Silva maintains his team should be higher up the table than 10th and it is hard to argue that they were hard done by at home to Manchester United last weekend. The Red Devils got the win with their only serious effort of the game as Fulham failed to score for the first time in six league games.
Silva’s side have conceded fewer goals away from home than at Craven Cottage this season, but any notion of them keeping a rampant Magpies side at bay for 90 minutes looks fanciful.
Fulham set to play on the counter attack
Newcastle rattled another three goals past Southampton last Saturday to make it 27 in their last 10 league matches. The Geordies are top of the eight-game Premier League form table with seven wins, 22 goals for and only six against.
Despite their 4-1 humbling at home to Bournemouth a fortnight ago, they are not to be trifled with here and should beat a Fulham side who will probably set up very differently to the Cherries.
Bournemouth pressed from the outset and got their rewards, but Fulham are likely to sit deep and try to hit their hosts on the counter attack. That approach should make a great contest with goals at both ends on the cards, but it may not be enough to stop the Magpies from winning.
Isak can help Magpies make amends
Newcastle’s clinical Alexander Isak can pick holes in any defence right now and showed how capable he is if unlocking a low block at St Mary’s last weekend when he won a penalty to equalise and waltzed through to make it 2-1.
Isak was subdued when these two sides met in London earlier this season, but Newcastle’s form is superior to Fulham’s now and their recent home record suggests they can avenge that 3-1 defeat.
The Magpies have scored exactly three goals in five of their last seven on Tyneside and look capable of another treble strike against a Fulham side that have already suffered a couple of 3-2 away reverses this season. Fulham have scored exactly two on their last four away trips, so a five-goal thriller looks like an enticing option in the correct score market.
