Newcastle to Win and Over 3.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

Newcastle are the in-form team in England right now, reeling off eight successive wins in all competitions, and they should be too strong for relegation-threatened Wolves. Back a high-scoring win for the Magpies given the form of Alexander Isak and the defensive vulnerability of the visitors.

Newcastle 3-1

Reason for tip

Wolves have leaked 45 goals in 20 Premier League games this term and could be breached a few times by Newcastle on Wednesday. That said, the visitors can welcome back Matheus Cunha so could get on the scoresheet themselves and 3-1 to the Magpies is an appropriate correct score pick.

Alexander Isak To Score Anytime

Reason for tip

Alexander Isak is the man to watch right now in the Premier League and he can add to his tally of 13 Premier League goals against a permeable Wolves outfit.

Newcastle vs Wolverhampton Predictions

  • Newcastle have won each of their last eight games
  • Four of Newcastle’s last eight matches have produced over 3.5 goals
  • Wolves’s league matches are averaging 3.8 goals per game this term

Isak can help Newcastle keep winning run going

Newcastle’s winning run shows no signs of relenting and they can keep the pressure on the Premier League top four with a high-scoring home win over Wolves on Wednesday.

After finishing 2024 on a five-game winning run in all competitions, the Magpies have started the new year with away wins against Tottenham and Arsenal before dumping League Two Bromley out of the FA Cup.

With Alexander Isak having sustained a minor thigh problem recently, the FA Cup break will have been welcomed by Newcastle, who should have their star striker back in the side for this league encounter.

With 13 goals in the top flight this season, Isak’s recent form has been integral to Newcastle’s Premier League recent ascent.

The Swedish marksman is ably supported by wingers Anthony Gordon and Jacob Murphy and Eddie Howe’s side have evolved into one of the most prolific attacking teams in the top flight.

Indeed, Newcastle have scored at least twice in each of their last ten matches in all competitions, recording 4-0 wins over strugglers Leicester and Ipswich in that run.

And when a particularly permeable Wolves visit Tyneside, there is every chance the goals could flow again.

Wolves’s defensive issues could be clear to see again

There has been a top-heavy nature to Wolves this season and they have the worst defence in the Premier League with 45 goals leaked in 20 matches.

They were turned over 3-0 by Nottingham Forest in their most recent Premier League assignment and they have kept just three league clean sheets this term, also failing to keep out Championship club Bristol City in the FA Cup on Saturday.

Since the arrival of Vitor Pereira, who replaced Gary O’Neil in the dugout, things have been looking up for Wolves, who have taken seven points from his first four games in charge.

But the two wins in that run came against deflated Leicester and Manchester United units, whereas Newcastle are the Premier League’s in-form team.

They made life tough for Arsenal at the Emirates in the EFL Cup semi-finals and they should be even more convincing on their own patch against Wolves with a home win and over 3.5 goals the way to go.

That should cover a potential hammering by the Magpies but Wolves could also contribute to a high-scoring game, especially with talismanic forward Matheus Cunha returning from suspension this week.

Net could bulge at both ends on Tyneside

Newcastle were 2-1 winners when these sides met at Molineux in September and the margin of victory could be even greater when they reconvene at St James’ Park, where a 3-1 win for Newcastle is a good correct score pick.

As for a goalscorer selection, Alexander Isak is the obvious pick given his current form.
