Newport County vs AFC Wimbledon Predictions
- Newport have won just one of their last 11 games in all competitions
- Newport have drawn blanks in five of their last eight matches
- Only Walsall (11) have kept more clean sheets than Wimbledon (ten) in League One this season
Wimbledon can continue push for promotion
Newport head into the new year off the back of successive defeats to Bromley and Walsall and they could be nudged closer to the danger zone when they host Wimbledon in League Two.
Wimbledon are at the opposite end of the League Two standings, having moved up to second after a 1-0 win over Gillingham on Monday.
That was their third win in their last five league games and they have emerged as one of the closest competitors to runaway leaders Walsall in the fourth tier.
They can also boast the best defence in the division with only 18 goals shipped in 22 league fixtures and they should keep tabs on a Newport side who have struggled for points.
Newport’s struggles set to continue
The hosts hammered MK Dons 6-3 in an anomalous win before Christmas but that was Newport’s only victory in their last 11 matches in all competitions.
And they have failed to score in five of their last eight games, drawing blanks gainst Reading, Grimsby, Notts County, Colchester and Walsall.
A Wimbledon win is the obvious way to play it for punters and if the visitors do take maximum points, their defence will likely play a part once again.
With that in mind, back a 2-0 win for Wimbledon in the correct score market.
