Royals can see off goal-shy hosts

Reading are the bet away at Northampton on Saturday. The hosts are struggling to find the back of the net this season and that could give Noel Hunt’s side a chance to get the win at Sixfields.

They are sixth in the table, 13 places and 22 points above Northampton, who sit 19th. Reading have won 19, drawn 11 and lost 11 of their 41 games, while Northampton have just 11 wins so far.

Reading beat Shrewsbury 3-1 on Tuesday in their second consecutive League One win. Reading, who were priced as 6/5 favourites, triumphed with something to spare.

Reading’s chances of getting a result at Sixfields are boosted by the hosts’ struggles in front of goal.

Northampton have lost their last two League One home games without scoring and have managed just 19 goals in 20 games at home this season – an average of 0.95 goals per game. Their 4-0 win at Peterborough last week was completely out of context with much of their season.

Reading are in form, with four victories in their last six League One games and come into this match on the back of consecutive wins.
A 1-0 away victory looks like a decent correct-score bet. Northampton have lost their last two League One home games and six of their last eight league games have ended with under 2.5 goals.
