Norwich vs West Ham United Predictions

  • Norwich have lost four of their five previous games after being relegated
  • The Canaries have lost all 12 clashes with the top seven this term
  • West Ham have won 10 of their last 14 meetings with the bottom-placed side

Back to the grind for Hammers

West Ham saw their European dreams dashed in midweek, exiting the Europa League at the semi-final stage. The Hammers had hoped for a European final and the potential of a first ever Champions League appearance, but a 3-1 aggregate loss to Eintracht Frankfurt put paid to that.

However, West Ham’s season hasn’t been brought to an abrupt end. While their hope of a trophy is gone, they’ve been given a huge taste of European action. That’s going to make them even more determined for a return next term.

However, they’re currently only three points clear in a Europa Conference spot, six shy of the final Europa League place. That makes Sunday a must-win clash for David Moyes and co.

Doomed Norwich to struggle

Norwich have already had their relegation from the Premier League confirmed, the fourth time they’ve been relegated ahead of the final day. In their previous five games played after relegation, the Canaries have lost four and drawn one.

Norwich have lost their last three Premier League games against West Ham and it’s hard to see this one going any differently. The hosts have lost 23 of 34 games this term and they’ve been found out against the division’s stronger sides.

The Canaries have lost all 12 of their meetings with the top seven so far this season. The highest placed side they’ve beat at home are Southampton, with all of their victories coming in meetings with the bottom six.

Hammers to produce

David Moyes has kept West Ham pretty consistent in the last couple of seasons and I don’t expect them to wobble given the gulf in class here. Since a 2-1 loss at Leicester in April 2015, West Ham are unbeaten in their last 14 Premier League games against sides bottom of the table (W10 D4).

The Hammers have lost every away trip to the top eight, but their record outside of that is strong. They’ve won six, drawn three and lost one outside of those games, so expect them to beat the worst side in the division. The visitors’ struggles has led to their odds drifting here and I’d back punters to take full advantage.

Jarrod Bowen has been involved in more Premier League goals than any other West Ham player this season (10 goals, 8 assists) and two of those goals came in the reverse fixture. He chipped in with a goal in the league last weekend and I make Bowen the Hammers’ biggest scoring threat here. Back him to strike, while I’m siding with the visitors to claim a 2-1 victory.

Norwich predicted lineup: Krul; Aarons, Hanley, Gibson, Giannoulis; Normann, Gilmour; Dowell, Lees-Melou, Rashica; Pukki

West Ham predicted lineup: Fabianski; Coufal, Dawson, Zouma, Cresswell; Soucek, Rice; Bowen, Lanzini, Fornals; Antonio
