Panama vs Bolivia Predictions
Panama have had a couple of warm up friendlies in the lead up to what is bound to be a very tough competition for them, and to be fair to them they have performed respectably. They lost 2-0 to Brazil in their last game, never really threatening to get a goal but saving themselves from humiliation, and that came after they managed a goalless draw against Venezuela.
These results make it three wins, two draws, and two defeats in their last seven matches, including a 4-0 win against Cuba in the Copa America Qualifiers and World Cup Qualifying results which have taken them to 2nd in Group B, three points behind Costa Rica but three ahead of Jamaica.
Admittedly they don’t have too much attacking talent blessing their squad, but the impressive teenage striker Ismael Diaz could turn a few heads up front and their goalkeeper is supremely experienced.
Bolivia aren’t exactly full to the brim with talent. The top scorer in their squad is Juan Carlos Arce, who has eight goals in 49 international appearances. Only five other members of the squad have scored for Bolivia before, and none of them have more than two goals to their name.
Bolivia lost 4-0 to United States in their warm up friendly for this opener, making it four defeats on the trot and resigning them to their 9th loss in their last ten games.
Bolivia used to be able to hold their own at home thanks to the high altitude, but recently even that has stopped working and they find themselves second from bottom of their World Cup qualifying group with three points from their opening six matches.
Away from the altitude of Las Paz it’s even worse for them. They have won just one of their last 43 matches outside of Bolivia and have lost six on the trot away from home. They have conceded 22 times during this six match run and scored just once at the other end.
Panama may not offer much more than Bolivia going forward, but their defence is proving to be much more solid. They limited Brazil to two goals in their friendly and kept a clean sheet against Venezeuala, whereas Panama lost 4-0 against the United States and have conceded at least two goals in each of their last seven away matches.
I think Panama have a good chance of getting three points in this one, and I think odds of 11/10 for a Panama win are excellent value for money. I’m going for a 2-0 correct score prediction at 8/1 as well.
